One Step Forward, One Step Back

Colin is in an open air crib so he can withstand room temperature! The nurses will monitor him closely if he needs to return to an isolet, but for now his body is fighting the elements. Also, his weight dropped to 3lbs 12.6oz. Not much at all for us, but his little body is working very hard, so the NICU is thinking of upping his fortified formula for another 2 calories to 24 calories/feed (24 calories x 8 feedings/day = 192 calories/day). Woohoo! He's going to be a fat, healthy baby before you know it.

Grasping is still a reflex action at this point...

...that instinct does not usually kick in until Month 4 and he's at Week -5. He just needs a wee bit longer.

Kangaroo care is very important for his development. The more skin to skin time he gets increases his chances of going home sooner. There is more pictures of daddy than mommy; otherwise this would not be a general audience kind of program. Wink!

That's it for today folks!
